Amphetamines in dogs
Isaac scored one of Noah’s 30mg Adderall XR pills this morning (I know I just broke HIPAA laws). Bottom line is I wasn’t confident he would be alright so I called the vet. They wanted him to come in and have his stomach emptied. He ingested the pill at 7:10 and was at the vet by 7:40 (and had a belly full of food). Oh and the dog weighs 70 lbs.
Didn’t have too much time to investigate online, but the vet said under 17 mg and it was monitor at home, above 17 mg and they like to empty the stomach. He said double 17 which would be 34 mg can be fatal.
Will update once I hear from the vet or get the fur ball home.
How did the dog get an amphetamine you might ask. Well Kerry handed it to Noah to take, Noah didn’t take it, rather he sat it down on the table next to the powdered dounut crumbs and no one was around to correct Noah or the dog. Not sure it tasted like a powdered dounut, but it went down the hatch anyway. Up until yesterday Isaac hadn’t gotten into anything in the house except a few nibbles on a playstation control when he was 12 weeks old. Starting yesterday he ate the zipper on his bed, a stuffed animal in Bethany’s room, an Adderall XR this morning, and found a dime in Marissa’s room. Time for a family meeting about
- Leaving crap laying around (remember Stella)
- Watching the dog 100% of the time unless he’s crated or kenneled
